Docu Short, Jazz portrait

Byron Pope (88) knew all the greats in Jazz of the 1960s. He was part of the generation of Charlie Parker and Duke Ellington – but with John Coltrane he had a special bond. His style was the Avantgarde, which is NOT free jazz as he likes to emphasise. “I had more talent than money”, says Byron, who calls himself ‘Speed of Light’: You either like his music or you don’t – but you will know it within milliseconds.
